The micro ATX is a motherboard which is a form factor motherboard. There are different sizes of this and it can range from 6.75 inches x 6.75 inches to 9.6 inches x 9.6 inches. Intel, AMD and VIA CPUs are currently supported by this form factor motherboard.

Due to the mounting points, the compatibility with the ATX is possible. There are many of the different subsets that are used on the ATX. The chipsets and the power connectors are also similar. The same I/O panels mean that this form factor can be used with the cases of ATX.

All of these similarities would allow the boards to have the same kind of features. But some of the ATX cases are bigger. The bigger cases would translate to more expansion slots. In order to cope with this limitation, the boards of micro atx have the peripherals too such as the graphics cards that are built in. Many of the ATX boards have also started to add some peripherals to them.

The micro atx case has the support for six of the SATA devices and for four of the legacy IDE drives. The capabilities of the board can be supplemented with the help of setting it on the ATX case. When talking about the size comparison, then the standard size of ATX is 305 x 244 mm. The mini ATX has the size of 284 x 208 mm and the size of extended ATX is 305 x 330 mm. The size of workstation ATX is 356 x 425 mm.
